Only one group has the honor of covering an entire hemisphere of continents, countries, and cultures. We got lucky on hot spots region pick day when we pulled number two; we would be second to pick our region. The Americas region was our first choice since both David and Stephanie were fluent in Spanish and Stephanie came from a Spanish background. We were surprised to learn that we would not be covering the U.S. itself. We asked how does one cover the news without talking about America? How will we ever have 6-8 minutes worth of a report? We were pleasantly surprised to see headlines from Central and South America in our very own Washington Post almost every day. The Americas is an ever changing region, and a very young region. The politics are complicated and the economics are dynamic. We thought we knew American history, but there was so much we were missing. As we do more class work and presentations, we become more convinced that the Americas region truly is the best one of them all.
