Career Connections - this is a FCPS website with valuable assessments, information on colleges, application processes, scholarships and resumes.

 

Understanding Self

  • Career Cruising - on-line user: tjhsst, password: braddock.  An Internet-based career exploration and planning tool that provides interest and skill assessments, career profiles,  multimedia career interviews, electronic career portfolios, college, financial aid and resume building information.  

  • My Road - College Board website that provides an assessment which guide you toward potential careers and appropriate colleges.

  • Keirsey Temperment Sorter II - a free, brief on-line assessment which is similar to the Myers-Briggs type indicators.

  • Making Decisions and Choices - useful guidelines for getting started when choosing careers paths and colleges.

Exploring Occupations

  • Cogito -  Launched by the Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University, Cogito offers the talented pre-college student a wealth of news, information, activities, programs and contacts in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math.

  • VA Career VIEW -  information on educational and career options in Virginia.  Covers over 600 occupations. Also included the Kuder Career Planning System, a state assessment that provides suggestions for colleges and careers.

  • Know How Virginia - provides assessments, career details, regional breakdowns.

  • U.S. News Career Home - information on the the latest career trends, the 25 best careers, the most overrated careers, salary and benefits information, and more.

  • Career Voyages -  provides information by industry, career exploration ideas, and video presentations.

  • O*NET -  US Department of Labor,  contains extensive information on occupations and can be searched using various criteria.

  • Department of Labor - index for DOL information.

  • National Career Development Association - the nation's primary source of occupational information. Provides comprehensive information on key attributes and characteristics of workers and occupations.

  • Occupational Outlook Handbook - Bureau of Labor Statistics' Handbook provided as an on-line search tool (Department of Labor).

  • NEW LINK! Cogito Internship Database - From the Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University, a database with dozens of internship opportunities for students in grades 7-12 and college.
