Students study the literary techniques used by Roman authors, with emphasis on refining the student's ability to read and understand Latin poetry, and on comprehending and interpreting the readings from Vergil. Passages of Vergil's Aeneid are read for comprehension and poetic meter. The passages are analyzed for content, connotation of words, and style. Students will study the life and time of Vergil, the poetic devices used in his writings, his influence on later writers, and the literary importance of the Aeneid. Upon completion, students take the Advanced Placement examination.
