Francophone Society through Movies, Songs and Literature

Grades: 11-12

Prerequisite: Level 4 or AP Language

This upper level French course is a Dual Enrollment course, as well as a regular TJHSST foreign language course. Students who want to receive credit (1 credit) from George Mason must apply to GMU and pay a reduced tuition fee. This course will replace the AP French Literature course. Using a wide variety of songs, films, magazine and literary sources, students will explore how Francophone society and its individuals have changed over time. The course will be organized around the following themes:

  • Global challenges as evidenced through the study of curent events and assorted media
  • Traditions and identities, through literature, films and songs
  • Science and technology in the Francophone world, through the reading of scientific articles
  • The cultural heritae of the Francophone world, through historical documents, films and songs

The course will be taught exclusively in French. Students will engage daily in group discussions, and develop their presentational as well as interpretive mode of communication.
