Students learn to understand and produce the sounds, stress patterns, and intonation of the language. Through basic vocabulary and structure, they learn to initiate and sustain short conversations on familiar topics, read short passages, and write short paragraphs. They listen to native speakers on tapes, and learn about family structure, school life, holidays, and geography of the country.
Students will be assessed frequently on their spontaneous speaking
proficiency.
