The core of the curriculum is based on the study of a wide variety of selections from Latin literature. The selections are studied in detail for their literary, social, political and historical significance. Also studied are Roman history with an emphasis on the time of Cicero; colonial administration; geography, including the extent of the Empire in relation to the ancient and modern world; Roman law, government, politics, religion and philosophy; Greek and Roman art, archeology; and their effect on western civilization.
