Course Description:
This semester course is a project-based seminar class, comprising background research, class discussion, and long-term projects related to the 2009-2010 One Question, "What are the social responsibilities of educated people?" The course will include exploration of various sources on social responsibility (readings, guest speakers, films, video conferences, websites, etc.) to set the framework. After an initial period of research and discussion, students will propose active projects entailing social responsibility. Students will work together in small groups or as a whole class on their long term projects. Members of this class will also serve the school community in promoting the One Question. During class time students will generate and carry out ideas for disseminating the concept of social responsibility. (Examples: inviting speakers for the student body, arranging brown bag discussion lunches for the school community, suggesting 8th period activities) The students will work on their projects and on activities for the school community during class time. Through this seminar students will develop skills in discussion, event organization, project planning, community outreach, problem solving, and social responsibility.
