Methods for Studying thinking

Starting with mapping thought with the EEG, and after that theory was proven impractical, moved to computer modeling.
Neural network models-theories or models that use patterns of neural connectivity, activation and inhibitions as a system for describing cognitive processing.
Emphasis is placed on simultaneous, automatic and parallel processing of information. And is done by using computers.
Metacognition- thinking or awareness of one's own thoughts.
Subjective reports - metacognitions described by a subject.
Think-aloud method- technique in which subjects try to say out loud everything they are thinking.
Protocol- in an experiment, a subject's experimental record. The spoken report in the think-aloud technique.
Protocol analysis- systematic analysis of subject protocols in order to find consistent patterns of cognition.
Expert system- computer program intended to process and interpret information in a specific area as an expert in that area would
Metamemory- awareness of one's memory.
Calibration- how accurate the mentacognition is.
When metamemory is not accurate, it is referred to as not well calibrated.
Illusion of knowing- an inaccurate overconfidence about one's knowledge and understanding.
The overconfidence is also a form of miss calibration.
