Achievement can be considered an important
factor for motivation. If one desires his team to be the best, the
goal of high achievement can be a powerful motivation. But if the
attitude is more along the lines of ‘it doesn’t matter if you win or lose
it’s how you play the game,’ achievement might not be the greatest motivator.
The idea of achievement affecting motivation
has been a popular idea. Tests have been administered to rank how
important achievement is to an individual. Sometimes though, achievement
isn’t the greatest factor for motivation, but rather a lack of achievement,
or failing, produces the motivation to stay out of the rut.
With this in mind it is not surprising that
people often choose difficult tasks. Sure, they might fail, but it
was a hard task to begin with. If they succeed they have accomplished
a great task. On the other hand easy tasks produce little esteem
if accomplished and produce dreaded results if failed.
